Stop the trauma go round.
You feel your heart racing and palms sweating, and you know you’re triggered.
It’s hard to move forward when you wait for something terrible to happen again. As a result, you tend to avoid situations that might cause you to relive that past trauma.
Physically and emotionally, you are a wreck, and it isn’t easy to live in the present while constantly reliving the past.
Now what? The way you feel happens often, and you want it to stop.
Here’s a trauma story.
Here’s how Holly* felt about her history of sexual and physical abuse. She spent days triggered and hiding her anxiety from everyone as best she could. If someone’s tone was intense, their eyes narrowed, or they were acting angry, she was immediately on high alert and ready to fix the problem to feel better.
This loop left her exhausted and unable to respond to her family how she wanted to, and she knew she could if she had more energy and felt calmer and safer. Everything was hard; she wished more people could understand or leave her alone. She wants some PEACE!
Holly took the first step by starting therapy with me, and within weeks, she began to feel like she had more control of her life and her reactions.
We worked on the trauma directly and the resulting emotions and behaviors. Holly enjoyed the homework and consistently implemented the skills she needed to accomplish her goals and feel more connected to herself and her loved ones.
Peace is possible.
Holly left therapy feeling more robust and better able to handle her life with more resilience than she had had in years. Her life was much more peaceful, and she got feedback from family and friends that they had noticed how much better she was doing.
